This Barbera d’Alba begins with a bright bouquet of red fruits, supplemented by tobacco smoke, liquorice, leather, oak, and herbal hints of cola. It is made from 100% Barbera, plucked from a small parcel of land in the Baricchi estate, where the vines grow on clayish, mineral-rich soil. Founded in 1989 by Natale Simonetta and his wife, Francesca, Cascina Baricchi is a small-scale family winery in the Langhe region of Piedmont, in Northern Italy. The region is well known for its high-quality grapes, thanks to the mediating influence of the Alps to the north, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. This is a classic Barbera d’Alba, bursting with high acidity, balanced, finely-grained tannins, and a steely, bright character.
