When they bought the estate they had an unexpected discovery. In 1995, winemaker Alberto Antonini and businessman Antonio Morescalchi bought some vineyards in Mendoza (Argentina), right in the Uco Valley. But the two Italians did not know that the property already had several owners, hundreds of them in fact. Against all odds, and ignoring the advice of local growers, they went ahead with their project. But the colonies of ants living on the site fed on the vineyards and made life hard for the new owners. Little by little, with plenty of patience, they finally got these tenants to move out and in 2016 they began production at the winery, which they called Altos Las Hormigas in honour of the previous residents. However, these is nothing accidental about these vineyards located in the Uco Valley (in the centre of the country) . The name also refers to the altitude where the vines are planted, between 900 and 2000 metres above sea level. These vines are growing Malbec, an “ignored and m
