Boekenhoutskloof Semillon 2022

Boekenhoutskloof Semillon is a single-variety Semillon white wine produced by the Boekenhoutskloof winery in the Franschhoek denomination in South Africa. Boekenhoutskloof Semillon is made mainly with grapes from one of South Africa’s oldest vineyards dating back to 1902, and featuring alluvial soils with high marl content. The rest of the grapes come from a couple of plots in the Franschhoek valley planted in 1936 and 1942. These are all old vines that produce wines with intense complexity. The grapes are pressed in whole bunches and fermented spontaneously in classic barrels and in concrete eggs. The resulting wine is aged for 14 months at a low temperature without adding sulphur, to inhibit malolactic activity. This procedure gives the Boekenhoutskloof Semillon wine a structure that means it develops well over time and acquires notes of lanolin, lemon curd and beeswax.
