Carol Douglas stands at the very foundation of the genres commercial breakthrough with her 1974 hit Doctors Orders frequently cited alongside Gloria Gaynors I Never Can Say Goodbye as one of the records that pushed disco from underground clubs into the mainstream. Produced by Meco Monardo the track became a fixture on American dancefloors and established Douglas as a central figure of the era. Born in Brooklyn in 1948 Douglas moved from early ambitions in acting toward music signing with Midland International Records in the mid-1970s and quickly becoming one of the first performers associated with legendary venues such as Studio 54.
