Rui Hachimura Born February 8, 1998, in Toyama, Japan. Hachimura began playing basketball in middle school and led his Meisei high school team, Miyagi Prefecture, to three consecutive victories in the National High School Tournament. Still a student, he was selected as a candidate for the Japanese national team. In 2016 he moved to the United States to attend Gonzaga University, one of the universities with the best NCAA basketball program. In his third year, he leads the Gonzaga Bulldogs to the Elite Eights of the NCAA tournament and wins the prestigious Julius Erving Award for best little wing of the season. In 2019, Hachimura becomes the first Japanese player in history selected in the first round of the NBA Draft, signing with the Washington Wizards. In his first NBA season, he plays 48 of the 72 planned games and is inducted into the NBA All-Rookie Second-Team. In 2023 he joined the Los Angeles Lakers.
