Taking a holistic approach, this book explores the communication challenges faced by African communities involved in the extractive industries. For many African nations, the natural resource sectors, commonly referred to as the extractive industries, are vital to the economy, with the potential to drive economic diversification, long-term growth, generational equity, and reductions in inequality and poverty.Yet, the pace of economic development across Africa often falls short of the promise held by its abundant natural resources.A key factor in this disparity is the inability of businesses in the extractive sector to effectively engage and communicate with host communities, hindering the establishment of shared expectations and a mutually beneficial development agenda.These communication gaps have resulted in avoidable conflicts and frustrations among stakeholders, including companies, host communities, and governments.Drawing on case studies from Zambia, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, a
