Deanston 18 Year Old 70cl 46.3%

I'm a great fan of Deanston's standard 12 yr old. But I have to admit being a little disappointed in this. Neat it taste a little light/raw spirity. That said adding just a splash of water allows this one to come alive. Was going 3 star, but with a little water - I'll go 4 -- good value as well.

A super Highlander whisky typical of this region. Vanilla, caramel, sweet, fruity, lemon, light, with a smoky scent, and it tastes like fresh tobacco. It does not test like what they describe its a very basic whisky.

Deanston 12 is a staple of mine, so thought I'd try the 18.. Im glad I did, and its very good value for the money. Deanston usually do excellent work, and although they have made a few of late that were not up to their standards, this is well above the excellent 12.
