I’m actually quite pleased with the speakers. However, the sound that plays when turning them on and off has become a real nuisance, to the point where I’d rather replace them. How could anyone think of playing such an irritating sound at such a high volume every time?

Good for a small speaker set, but you may need an additional woofer for full impact. There is a woofer out connection for that. Although I ordered this item on amazon.co.uk, this item only shipped with a EU plug. I checked and I can't see that information is on the product page.
