When a zipper fails, it is most likely due to wear within the zipper slider itself rendering it unable to properly mesh the teeth or coils properly for a secure closure. The teeth or coils are generally in good condition; however, the usual repair solution is the removal and replacement of the entire zipper. This is generally done by a tailor and can be quite costly. In addition, the results are often less than satisfactory due to stitching variances from the original or color matching. In the case of specialty or vintage items, i.e. a WWII bomber jacket, a tailor may not want to accept the repair.
