Hel is the daughter of Loki and the giantess Angrboda, which means she is also sister to the wolf Fenrir and the world serpent Jormungand. Hel is portrayed as a somewhat cruel and indifferent goddess, not particularly fond of the living or the dead. Her face is shown to be monstrous and both living and dead.
