Garnacha, one of the oldest and most versatile grape varieties in the world, is undergoing a revival in modern viticulture. Known for its adaptability to various climates and soils, this grape has captured the attention of winemakers and oenologists seeking to highlight its exceptional potential. This is how Núria Altés and her partner Rafael De Haan established their project in the village of Batea, in Terra Alta (Catalonia). Their winery, named Herència Altés, aims to showcase to the world the potential of garnacha in this southern Catalonian land from a sustainable perspective, while paying homage to its roots. A project initiated in 2010 with much time and care has resulted in fruitful creations such as Herència Altés La Borrassona, a red wine made from garnacha sourced from an iconic estate of old vines cultivated organically to preserve the natural balance of the terroir.
