We had already played King of Tokio and wanted to see how this already superb game evolved. Yes, it’s more elaborate, yes there are more ideas, but I still prefer The King of Tokyo; the original version might be easier to play or it’s just the sentimental attachment to the first game in the series.

The original game, King of Tokyo is better, so buy that one instead. It's easy to pick up for new players and there's a few clear ways to win: get stars (victory points), deplete the health of other players, and/or collect energy to buy power cards to help with the previous two. The location rules and military response add some much-needed strategy to the "King of..." games. I miss the powers from the Power Up expansion of King of Tokyo that gave each monster a playstyle.
