Over 160 years ago, Joseph Rumillet-Charretier, a brilliant herbalist, created the Verveine du Velay, a liqueur that soon became a symbol of Auvergne (France). There, verbena, known by the Romans as the herb of Venus, was considered sacred and capable of rekindling the flame of love; today it remains an emblem of local gastronomy and a source of inspiration for chefs exploring its unique aromas. In 1886, Victor Pagès took over the management of the distillery, leaving his name and legacy, which subsequent generations have preserved with passion, turning the Verveine du Velay into both a gastronomic and architectural heritage of Le Puy-en-Velay. The Destilería Pagès remains true to the ancestral recipe, combining verbena grown on its own lands with carefully selected herbs, spices, and aromas.
