Will there be life in space? And most importantly, will they want to drink wine? For now, we don’t know whether or not the wine will survive outside earth’s orbit. What we do know for sure is that we will continue to love it here for generations to come. Ensuring the vine survives is the aim of Franco Marí Ricci, president of the Italian Sommelier Foundation (FIS), who is working to discover how vines and wines cope in space. This project, called Wine in Space was presented at the annual International Wine Culture Forum 2022 and will involve sending a selection of vines and bottles into space to see how they are affected by the lack of gravity. There are three wines taking part in this mission, with only a couple of vintages selected: Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (2006 and 2015), Gaja Barolo Sperss (1988 and 2017) and Feudi di San Gregorio Taurasi Riserva Piano di Montevergine (2012 and 2015). It is worth noting that this selection has been chosen taking into account t
