The country’s oldest winery is Chateau Purcari which was officially established by special decree by Tsar Nicholas I in 1827. Purcari experienced a golden age in the 19th century and won gold medals for their wines both at home and at the Paris World Exhibition. In the 21st century the profile of the estate is once again on the rise thanks to their impressive performance at the Decanter World Wine Awards where the winery won numerous gold and silver medals as well as Best In Show for one of their white wines.
