For younger children, a smaller size violin, like 3/4, 1/2, 1/3, 1/8, or 1/10, is recommended. For a violin, the arm length should be measured from the middle of the palm of the hand to under the chin. This will give you the length that will allow the scroll to be held in a curved hand with the elbow slightly bent and fingers pointing towards the face.
