This principle was also shared by Carlos Esteva of Can Ràfols dels Caus, a staunch advocate of Garraf wines, who asserted that "exceptional wines possess something that goes far beyond what we are capable of perceiving with the eyes, nose, and mouth". For him, the invisible was the most crucial element in crafting a good wine: that intangible essence which cannot be seen but is felt with every sip. Carlos Esteva understood that a great wine not only expresses the terroir but also the individuality of its creator, something that is lost when a wine is made solely for economic purposes.
