Dating back to 1772 the house has a rich and varied history. 'Veuve' translates as widow and is a reference to Barbe Nicole Ponsardin who ran the company from a very young age due to her husband's early and untimely death. Her influence was clear within the house of Veuve Clicquot (the label's distinctive colour still used today was her choice) but also spread across the Champagne region with her method of clarifying the wine being adopted by all the producers to this day.On the nose: yellow and white fruits, then notes of vanilla and later of brioche. On the palate: freshness and strength while pear and lemon tastes appear. Finish: admirably vinous. The lingering aromas echo and re-echo, with each fruit or almond notes distinct.
