With millions of allied and enemy troops laying down their lives on the battlefields of Europe, hundreds of thousands were participating in an entirely different form of warfare, albeit equally dangerous for those involved. The War at Sea would prove to be one of the pivotal battlegrounds that would ultimately decide the outcome of the Second World War. With thousands of enemy and allied cargo ships resupplying the troops on the front line each day, it was quickly realised that theside who could sustain sea dominance would have the best chance of winning the war. In an attempt to scupper and destroy as many resupply ships as possible, the Germans had hundreds of heavy surface vessels and U-Boats patrolling the seas, with these taking the brunt of the fighting.
