Daytime running lights
On most cars with factory-fitted daytime running lights, these switch on automatically as soon as you activate the ignition and turn the light switch to the neutral position. If you now switch on the low beam, the daytime running lights are either switched off or dimmed.
As the name suggests, daytime running lights are mainly used during the day, even when visibility is good. As soon as poor visibility occurs due to darkness, you must switch to the low beam.

To connect your new daytime running lights correctly, it is advisable that you follow the manufacturer's installation instructions, as the wiring can vary from light to light. In particular, the colour of the cables can vary. However, the following procedures usually apply:
Connect the brown wire (ground) to the body or to a ground wire in the engine compartment.
Connect the yellow cable to the steady plus of the parking light.
Connect the red cable to the ignition plus.

Regulation No. 87 of the ECE states that the luminous intensity of each light must be at least 400 candela. Furthermore, the light must not exceed a value of 1200 candela.
The legal guidelines for daytime running lights can be found in regulation no. 87 and no. 48 of the ECE. The following regulations apply:
