Conventional toilet paper is virtually a by-product or waste product of the wood industry - it is made from tree tops, branches and sawmill residues. The resulting wood fibers are used by the industry to make toilet paper.
The first step in the manufacturing process is the removal of bark from felled trees by working machines. The tree trunks are then shredded into wood chips, sorted and then boiled in chemicals for a few hours.
After the moisture has evaporated, a pulp remains. This consists of lignin, a vegetable binder, and cellulose fibers and must now be cleaned, bleached, and freed of the lignin and chemicals.
Now the manufacturers mix the pulp with water, which turns it into paper. This pulp is then placed on a screen and pressed to drain off the excess water.
Now metal blades are used to scrape the dried paper and cut it into long strips. They also punch out the later square shape.
Finally, the large paper rolls are cut into small rolls and packaged.
The production of recycled toilet paper looks a little different. Here, waste paper is collected and taken to a paper mill. There, chemicals as well as water are added and it is filtered, mixed, scooped and processed.
The resulting paper stuff is now formed into a large roll and cut to size in a paper converting plant.

This usually depends on the layers of toilet paper. A four-ply toilet paper usually has 160 sheets with a tear-off size of 10 by 14 centimeters.
Three-ply toilet paper, on the other hand, has 250 sheets and a tear-off size of 10 by 12 centimeters.
Two-ply toilet paper has 400 sheets and a tear-off size of 10 by 12 centimetres. This results in the following calculation:
four-ply toilet paper: 160 x 0.14 metres = 22.4 metres
three-ply toilet paper: 250 x 0.12 metres = 30 metres
two-ply toilet paper: 400 x 0.12 metres = 48 metres

It should be at least two-ply. Single-ply toilet paper usually feels like sandpaper and is actually only used in public toilets. Basically, however, it depends on your needs.
If you like it extra soft, I recommend toilet paper with five layers. For those who can manage with less, the market has three- or four-ply toilet paper.

It is best to use toilet paper for your anal region that does not contain any additives. The main thing is that the paper feels nice and soft and does not cause irritation to the anus.
Attention: Don't fall for the description "sensitive" or "skin-friendly". Toilet paper with these names often hides preservatives and other additives that can cause skin irritation.
Toilet paper manufacturers like to use these terms because they are not legally protected and can therefore be used at whim.

Not at all. Moist toilet paper often contains preservatives as well as fragrances and therefore contains allergens. In the worst case, these can lead to inflammation. For this reason, experts strictly advise against the use of moist toilet paper.

You should use special toilet paper for a camping toilet. This is significantly thinner than conventional toilet paper, water-soluble and therefore does not clog the toilet as quickly.

According to the Federal Environment Agency, you should use toilet paper made from waste paper, i.e. recycled toilet paper. This is much more ecological than paper made from virgin wood fibres, as less wood, water and energy are wasted during production.
Now, if you're saying, "But recycled toilet paper is so rough," I'll have to prove you wrong. These days, the market produces bright white recycled paper that is similarly soft and looks just like regular toilet paper.
However, if you can't give up fresh pulp paper, I still advise you to consider a few things to help protect our planet.
On the one hand you can try to reduce your consumption and on the other hand you can look for resource-saving toilet paper. This usually comes with a corresponding seal that reflects the sustainability of the product.

Yes, you can compost toilet paper without hesitation. Together with other plant materials, toilet paper goes through the classic composting process, also called rotting, and becomes humus.
Of course, it's best to use recycled toilet paper for composting.

One person uses about 0.29 kilograms of toilet paper per week. Doesn't sound like much at first. But if you extrapolate that, you come to 15 kilograms per person per year. This corresponds to about 46 rolls of toilet paper.

Personally, I think it's always best to keep a supply of toilet paper near the toilet, ideally right next to it. That way, you won't get into trouble if you run out of paper.
There are even special storage options for this, which you can place right next to the toilet. An alternative storage place is of course the small washbasin cabinet.
Another option is of course a cupboard in the hallway or similar, but as I said, it can sometimes be quite a long way to go.
Single rolls that you just have in use are kept neatly and handy on a toilet paper holder or stand. Toilet paper racks usually offer space for two/three spare rolls.
